I’m old school. Growing up, we would piece together costumes from things we had on hand. Sometimes my mom would buy something small that we needed to complete the ensemble or she would get crafty and sew something, but we often made costumes with things we already had on hand. Though I have to admit, I do remember those really uncomfortable masks with the rubber bands stapled to them. Ugh.
I still try to raid our dress up box or hit up a thrift store for small things we need for costumes. I’ll sew something when needed, but since I’m not great at it, I try to avoid it at all costs.
Here’s my first vlog in which I tell you all about our DIY Toy Story costumes. We used items we had on hand, a few I bought, and others that I made to have all three of my kids in coordinating costumes for our church’s fall festival (I’m not a big fan of Halloween).
Here’s a link to the instructions I followed on embroidery. Since it’s just a costume and I was working with felt, I didn’t bother with using an embroidery hoop or webbing.
Because I think my kids are ridiculously cute, here are more pictures of them in their costumes, which they adore. I’m so glad they were being sweet to each other when I had the camera out. It’s a refreshing change!
